Dr. Malati Das IAS (Retd.)

Former Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka

Dr Malati Das was an IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre and was Chief Secretary of the state. She has held many key posts in the government such as Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Planning and Statistics, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Secretary, Women and Child Development, and Secretary Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms to name a few. Dr. Das did her BA (Hons) and MA in English from Delhi University. After recruitment to the IAS, she read Political Science at the University of Hawaii (UH), U.S.A as the recipient of an East West Center grant. She has an MA and PhD from UH.

Areas of expertise: economic policy and planning, gender policy and planning, education, human development, governance and e-governance, social groups, poverty and livelihoods, corruption in government.

Consultancy: Dr. Das has worked with the World Bank as a consultant in Ethiopia, and wrote two case studies based on field research and developed an economic empowerment project for women. She was Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) Bangalore, and currently she is an Advisor with Janaagraha.

S T Ramesh

Dr. S T Ramesh, IPS (Retd.)

Former DG & IGP, Karnataka State

Dr S T Ramesh served the Karnataka police and the Government of India for three and half decades serving in several sensitive positions. A champion of police reforms and Human rights, he stood for transparency and integrity as a police officer. He introduced several reforms within the prison and Police departments which he headed with distinction. His contribution was particularly noteworthy in implementing technology in Karnataka police , introducing innovations in police training , Gender sensitization ,anti-smuggling drive in CID and prison reforms. He was awarded the President's medal for meritorious service followed by the medal for Distinguished service. He is one of the advisors to Janaagraha in its fight against corruption.
