Resisted bribe for traffic violation

Reported on October 25, 2010 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #32646

This happened a year ago. I was visiting Apollo hospital in Greams Road. It was my first time. After visiting the hospital started driving my car on the road connecting the hospital and the main road. It seems it was a one way road. Later I realised this and the sign board was hidden by a tree. Once I reached the main road, two cops stopped me and asked me to pay a fine of Rs.500 or bribe him Rs.200/-. I insisted I will pay the fine and asked him to tell me the correct amount for one way violation. He insisted it was dangerous driving. I vehemently told him it is not dangerous driving as anyone can drive only at 10km per hour max in that lane. I insisted I would like to see the fine amount printed back on the receipt they provide while paying fine. It was mentioned clearly Rs.50/- for one way violation. I paid him only Rs.50/- and got a receipt. I urge all the readers if you got into any traffic violation, please insist to pay the fine and insist to know the correct amount for the violation.
