Dear Raghu, thank you for this helpfull site ! I approached the BESCOM office in Anekal today to get the name of my wife corrected on the bill. At the same time I made a written request to add my name on the bill or mention Mr & Mrs. To this the agent replied that the meter could be on only name, even though I produced proof of property ownership. Earlier I lived in Europe and am used to the bill bearing the name of the couple. Above all, I need such a document as address proof and avoid future administrative hassles in case of the death of any one of us. Could you please advise me on this particular subject. Initially when Owners are allotted tenements in housing complexes, the ELECTRICITY Bill does not reflect the name of the Owner, even if he/she has paid the necessary Deposit, Fee, etc. Later, when the Name is sought to be inserted in the ELECTRICITY BILL, there is a 'unofficial' payment involved to the concerned Electricity dept jurisdiction..Is not a legitimate payer of the fees, etc to the Dept, not entitled to his Name being mentioned on the bill?? If the Bill does not carry the Owner's name, the Builders cud take advantage of the situatIon. It is just as good as you staying in a house without having a 'Khatha' in YOUR name. Why does the Owner have to shell out unofficial money's for a right which he/she is entitled to automatically? Is there no questions being asked of these employees/midddlemen in the Electricity Dept, who ILLEGALLY swindle Owner's for no rhyme or reason?? signifying
