I am sorry, but there was absolutely no need for you to pay a bribe. All you had to do was to make a complaint to the MD BESCOM. All of us have alibis to somehow justify paying bribes. In your case, you say you did not have a choice, because you had to complete your construction. But you did have a choice! You could have resisted and fought out the matter. A large number of citizens have done this and reported their experiences on 'i didn't pay a bribe'.



This will not come to an end if individually, each one of us continues to pay bribes. Holding a candle, or supporting the struggle to end corruption will not do. You cannot outsource the battle against corruption. You will have to go through the experience yourself. Only then, will corrupt public servants feel the heat.



Please take a vow never to pay a bribe in the future.

I had constructed a new house at bangalore. I need to take the Electricity, Water and Sanitary connection. The Person concerned from the BBMP came and measured the place for road cutting and asked to pay the money through DD for road cutting permission. I was sked to take two DD's each little more than Rs 30,000. Anyways I had no problem paying this money because this is the BBMP rules for raod cutting. But the Engineer asked us to pay a bribe of Rs 12000 for the electric meter connection from the pole and the water/sanitary guy was demanding another Rs 10000. I had no other alternative, but to pay the bribe of Rs 8000 & Rs 6000 after a lot of argument with those corrupted guys. It was really ridiculous, but I had no other choice since I had to complete my construction. I hope that this comes to an end at the earliest and lets all support the struggle to end the corruption.
