If you have done your booking online, then it is mandatory to carry the hard copy of the ticket to show it to the ticket collector. Wouldn't you carry your ticket if it was booked at the ticket counter? It is just the same. Least what you could do is remember your PNR number. Next time make sure you carry the hard copy and I also suggest you save the PNR number in your phone as well. That way, if you misplace your hard copy, you can show the TT your PNR number.
