Yesterday, I was travelling with my friends in my car from Wayanad to Sathyamangalam.
There was a check point in Hasanur. The police were checking for illegal purchase of alcohol from other states. There was an empty bottle of wine in my car, for which he stated that I would have to pay a fine of Rs.6000 else he would cease the car and produce it the Gobichettipalayam court. I tried to call my lawyer , but he was unavailable, since it was during Pongal ( A traditional function ) and it was also @ night 8:00PM. I tried to reason with him and explaining it to him that it was an empty bottle . But he refused to take it and threatened me that I would have to got jail for "Disobeying the Authority" . After waiting there for several hours , he sent came there and said that he felt pity for us and he would leave us for a small bribe of Rs.2500 .
Then after several other pleading for hour we finally bargained for Rs.1000 . In that small amount of time around 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM he caught many other cars , all were students,teenager and workers who were unaware of the actual law . He nearly got bribe from every one collecting Rs.1000 -3000 .
What can a comman man do about such Authorities?
