Hankering for money

Reported on October 22, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #30210

While taking a right turn on Dickenson Road from M.G. Road, I didn't notice that the signal had turned ********** - thanks to a BTS bus moving at a snails pace in the wrong lane and blocking my view of the traffic lights completely. The traffic police at the junction signalled me to stop my car and I obliged. He came up, checked my driver's license and car papers and told that I have to pay fine. I said OK and give me a challan - he refused stating that he doesn't have it with him and that's with his officer. I told him to report the incident to his officer and that I would wait till he comes and pointed to the walkie-talkie he was carrying. He stated that the set has run out of batteries and so I said I will wait. After some five minutes he comes back and pleads to me that why don't I give him 100/- and he will let me go. I refused and said I want a receipt and that I will wait. He went back and came again after some 5 minutes and now he was even more pleading and asked 80/-.
Now I wanted to have some fun and I said at max I will give him 20/- and that too I don't have any small changes but only 100/- rupee notes. He went down further -- summoned a cigarette-vendor sitting illegally besides Manipal Cantre and handed me a change of 70/- and taking some 30/-

It sounds quite jocular when I put it in this fashion here, but this was just to bring out how petty we have become as a whole community in these matters.
