Civic Responsibility Comes At a Price

I insisted to install a pole. They said you need to pay Rs.5000 for the same. I shamelessly ended up paying bribe here as this was a long term concern and no one bothered to fix it.

Taking an initiative to fix a problem affecting someone other than yourself is a commendable act. But what if that intent to help is met with a bribe demand? This well-meaning citizen from Bangalore tried to  fix a potentially dangerous low-hanging electric cable. The concerned official from the local electricity board complied to the citizen’s demand to install another pole, only after he paid a bribe of Rs.5000. So much for civic responsibility.
