Want to pursue a career in the Animal Husbandry department? Well, prepare to tolerate much harassment or be ready to shell out some money.
A subsidiary of the Agricultural Ministry, this department was created two decades ago. It takes care of fisheries, livestock and dairy development. This sector happens to be one of the lesser explored areas of corruption on our portal.
A veterinary officer from Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) reveals the difficulty in nurturing these animals. After clearing his Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, the respondent reveals how the final list of selected candidates for the Animal Husbandry department was released. Those who paid the maximum bribe amount made it! On the other hand, a doctor from Jammu & Kashmir stood his ground and refused to grease palms. What he got for his honest, dignified stand was a hellish experience. The Secretary of the State’s Animal Husbandry department ensured the doctor was removed from service.
He was neither paid a salary nor a pension till his date for superannuation. The Human Rights Commission finally ruled in favour of the doctor.
