Toll Scam rocking our highways
Toll booths are emerging as centres of corruption. If you make the mistake of going past one of them in an expensive vehicle, be prepared to suffer a heavy loss.
One of our respondents, an NRI who was on a visit to Delhi to visit his family, was looted of Rs. 20,000 by toll booth officials near the airport. The charge against him was that the expensive car picking him up had a temporary registration plate! (http://ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/airport-toll-scam).
Another respondent highlights his experience at the Vizag-Vellore highway where tickets were issued for half the actual price without any receipt. Both parties tend to benefit in this case.
Around 20,000 vehicles pass by this stretch on a daily basis and with no receipt, these small amounts run into a sizeable amount each day. Real loss is incurred by the government in such cases.
The welfare schemes planned for the commoner get affected as an end result.
