Do you have the guts to stand up to corruption?
By Juwairia Mehkri
It takes real courage for one to swim against the tide. That is exactly what a few honest individuals are doing in their struggle against corruption that has infected almost everyone right from the bourgeois to the bureaucrat.
While a majority of our respondents confess their guilt-ridden tales of being a party to corruption in some manner, a minority bring the much-needed respite as well as hope to all of us by sharing their experiences when they stood up to corrupt individuals.
One entrepreneur from Pune describes how he refused to buckle to the pressure of a corrupt Company Registrar when he approached him to register a new name for his concern. The latter demanded a bribe of Rs.7,500 instead of the permitted fee of Rs.1,500.
This individual tricked the official into believing that he actually recorded the comment in which the latter blatantly demanded a bribe to sign the dotted line http://ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/little-trick-saved-thousands-bribe-company-registrar-office.
Another respondent revealed how he was stubborn about not parting with Rs.100 to a traffic cop. He reportedly left his licence and other vehicle-related documents at home instead of carrying them with him. Repeated attempts by the policeman to coax the respondent went in vain. He preferred waiting for a long time in the company of the cop until his relative fetched the documents for him.
Apart from saving a few hundreds or thousands of their hard-earned money, these gutsy individuals send across a powerful message to the corrupt - not everyone will tolerate their unethical practices. They also offer inspiration to the vast majority who yearn to fight the menace.
