The Need To Police The Police Force
The Police in India are a law unto themselves. The clichéd notion of the police force being the guardians of society is repeatedly proven wrong by their antics revealing their non-existent sense of morality and greed. The little amount of faith that’s left for the force diminishes further when cases of impropriety and dishonesty come to the fore. This report of an innocent government officer who was framed in a case of sexual assault by a petty thug that was duly backed by the police illustrates the point rather vividly.
An internal investigation headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Delhi revealed that this small time thug had extorted money from a lot of influential persons in Delhi, all in connivance with the police.
Such incidents throw light on the lack of integrity in the police force. Even after repeated attempts to bring the corrupt police officers to book, the respondent is disappointed by the absence of a departmental investigation.
Such state of affairs within government bodies that are responsible to ensure public order and safety only lead to more disillusionment and loss of public faith.
