Mr Pathan, traffic Cop extracted 4000/- from me.

I will start by admitting that I still have not paid the road tax for plying my car in Pune. But that does not make the crime of Mr Pathan less.

Mr Pathan is posted as a traffic cop on baner road. Yesterday he saw a different state's registration car and after some arguments, took me to the Chaturshringi Police station, under the overbridge, near Pune University. There, he and another traffic cop threatened me by showing many photos of cars/bikes detained for years. They also threatened to detain my car and keep it till it become useless.

Thereafter, they asked me for 4000/- which I paid under stress. I now feel guilty of promoting corruption in the police department. Since I didnt have money, I told them but they persisted. I had to draw money from SBI ATM 50 meters away from police station. It is also the first time I had to draw cash on my credit card in my entire life and the banks record can show that.

I was surprised to see a lot of traffic police stopping people, checking documents and negotiating. After I paid, there was another policeman who asked for his share from Mr Pathan and the other policeman. It seems everyone knows and no one does anything about it.

I have told an RTO agent to get my road tax paid soon. But I still feel the guilt of promoting corruption and giving in to the threats.
