HOME THEATRE PURCHASE FROM DUBAI

Hi

I bought a Harmon Kardon home theatre from Dubai in Dec 2009 for Rs.22000/- from a mall with proper bills. This model was not available in India at that time.

On landing at Bangalore the customs person asked me to pay a bribe to get it cleared. I showed him the bill which he refused to accept. He arbitarily valued it at Rs.48000/- and asked me to pay a duty of Rs.7000/- odd

I told him very clearly I am going to escalate this and report to the authority. He dared me to do it and said nothing is going to happen.

I didnt want to pay a bribe. I paid the customs duty levied inappropriately.

I sent a registered post informing the incident to the Assistant Commissioner Customs, BIAL. It is more than 1 1/2 years and I am yet to receive an acknowledgement of my letter.

This country has gone to dogs and nothing is going to happen.

I regret having paid the duty when I could have just got away by paying some money to the govt dogs. Next time I would prefer to pay the bribe than get fleeced by these official *******
