I was stopped at a traffic signal for crossing red light, although I started when light was green and crossed when it was orange. I paid 100 INR to avoid challan. This is more common at a particular traffic signal where you will find a particular individual all the time, doing this business. If you argue, they threaten to press further charges like misbehaving, rash driving etc. They are in control.
