I paid a bribe to a postman when he came to deliver my passport. I was around 15 - 16 years of age and I was not exactly aware of this bribe- giving mechanism. I was the only one in my home and the postman came to deliver the parcel. Somehow, he was fully aware that the parcel contained passport. When I tried to take away the parcel from him, he was first reluctant. Then realising that I was alone at home and I was not understanding that he wants 'kharcha-paani', he asked me call my father in the office. I called my father and he talked to my father and then my father told me that since that parcel contains parcel, I have to pay INR 100 to him. That day, I understood the true meaning of 'kharcha-paani' culture.
P.S : This happened in 2005 - 06 but I had to select 2009 because that is the oldest year available in date options.
