How Happy are Happy Endings?

My first thought was not delight at getting it back but awe and respect for the police department for having investigated into the matter and recovering it… I had to pay multiple visits to the police station for 2 weeks after the call because I decided to be thick about any hints they might have dropped about wanting extra money… I was summoned back on Republic day (hard to miss the irony) and asked to handover the money to shady looking non-cops.

One has least expectations of seeing a stolen asset again, especially if one has approached the police to investigate into the matter, unless of course their palms are greased. It was indeed surprising when this citizen from Bangalore got a call from the police station that claimed to have found his bike. Much to his dismay, the bike did not turn out to be his. To make matters worse, the bike is in a dilapidated condition. Oh wait, this is truly serves as the cherry on top- the respondent is made to cough out a bribe of Rs.3000 along with Rs.4000 to refurbish the bike. It only gets better- the exchange takes place on ‘Republic Day’. So much for his new found respect for the police, eh!
