Case filed against BJP MP for calling Sonia, Rahul names

Patna, June 20 (IANS) A case was filed on Saturday against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ashwani Kumar Choubey for making offensive remarks about Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, a Bihar government lawyer said.

A Congress worker has filed the case against Choubey in Muzaffarpur district, about 70 km from here.

Choubey, an MP from Buxar, allegedly described Sonia Gandhi 'Putna' - the mythological demon woman sent by demon king 'Kansa' to kill the baby lord Krishna - and Rahul Gandhi a 'videshi tota' - a foreign parrot on Friday.

Hundreds of Congress workers protested and laid seige to Choubey in a hotel in his parliamentary constituency of Buxar since Saturday morning, demanding apology from him.

Similarly, Congress workers in Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur staged protest against Choubey.

Addressing party workers in Nawada district, Choubey said Sonia Gandhi was a 'Italy ki Gudiya' (doll of Italy) and 'zehar ki pudiya' (a poisonous pouch), and both -- the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were sitting in her lap to drink poison.

Choubey also described Lalu and Nitish Kumar as 'Ranga-Billa' (two notorious criminals sent to gallows in 1982 for assaulting a schoolgirl in Delhi in 1978), who would not be able to stop the BJP from coming to power in Bihar.

Choubey earlier landed himself into a controversy when as the health minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet in 2012, he gave a call for chopping off doctors' hands.

In last few years, he has made several controversial remarks that angered Bihar's ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U), RJD and the Congress.

Earlier, two cases were filed in separate courts in Bihar against union minister Giriraj Singh for his allegedly racist remark about Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

At an event in Hajipur in Bihar in early April, Singh had said: "Had Rajiv Gandhi married a Nigerian and if she (Sonia) was not white-skinned, would the Congress have then accepted her leadership?

"It is her white skin which has brought her to the helm," he added.
