Asking money for khata transfer
After purchasing a flat, I went ahead to transfer the khata in my name. I had to get this done from the Bomannahalli BBMP office. I took advice from them regarding the documentation and prepared by gathering them altogether. The submission of the documents went through after they examined the paperwork.
After two weeks, when I reached the BBMP Office to follow up, I was advised to meet their assessment officer. At the third attempt, I was successful the meet the person. The officer pointed out that I would need to submit the house tax receipt and not just the acknowledgement. I got the same and returned to find that the person was not available.
After almost a month, I had the assessment officer and another person calling me from the entrance gate of my apartment complex. They asked to come down and meet them at the gate. At the gate, I requested them to come and see my flat for assessment. they said that that was not necessary. Instead, they asked for Rs 3000 as office charges since they had to take my submitted documents to the RO and ARO. I asked them if they are going to give me a bill for this to which they replied no. I did not agree to their proposition.
They thumbed through my documentation and started asking for occupancy certificate and other documents. When I asked if these were mandatory, especially after having examined my document submission at the BBMP Office, they fell silent.
They finally smiled and said my khata transfer would be done in a week or two.
It's been over 3 weeks since that meeting. I have been to the BBMP Office at Bomannahalli only to be told that the documents are currently with their boss. On checking out their boss's availability, I found that the gentleman is available only between 11am and 1pm.
I am looking forward to the next weekend to meet this person to understand how long it would take to transfer the khata in my name.
