Could not pay a bribe !
My father, who has served the government with all honesty and many others like him were hooked by the police in a minor corruption case in Jharkhand by the police in hope of a bribe (the police knows full well that no one wants to be embroidled in a never ending court case and hoped that in lieu of a small bribe, everyone who was wrongly caught would pay a bribe and be let off). However, a newly transferred Chief Justice of Jharkhand took over the case and ordered that everyone who was named in an FIR be FIRST ARRESTED and then a hearing would be done. My fathers FIR said clearly he was not involved in any way so he filed for an anticipatory bail. However the lower court judge would not hear his case (nor of the 32 others named in the case, most of them innocent: like jeep drivers, peons, and some against whom not even an iota of dcoumentary evidence existed who are languishing in jail with years of reputation, of honesty, their life's only earnings, gone to dust with this witch-hunt and no hearing being done in their case. The Chief Justice, basking in his glory and unaware of these injustices, rests peacefully in his high office, while police and vigilance officers in the state run scared from pole trying to arrest scared innocent people just to show him that "action has been taken". So much for a future superpower's civil society. And who do you pay a bribe to get out of this?
