Hudson Circle/ Mysore road junction at District Office road.

Reported on December 29, 2016 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #143242

On 27th December 2016 at 12:20pm, our Uber taxi got pulled over for tinted windows by a constable at the intersection of Mysore road and District Office road near Corporation/ Hudson Circle. The constable was wearing a dark blue jacket and cleverly covering his name tag.

He asked the driver to pay Rs 100 or he would write a challan for the laminated windows. He told us that it is illegal and hence he pulled us over. He asked us where we were headed and on learning that we were heading to the airport, he said he will let us go if the driver paid Rs 100.

I requested him in a very extemely polite manner to provide his name and office jurisdiction since he would not providing the challan but let us go after taking Rs 100. To which he became furious and started demanding the driver all sorts of documentation pertaining the the vehicle permits and his license etc. None of these were required in the first place for the reason he pulled us over.

My wife started to plead with him to let us go. He was rude and argued with me that from a humanity sake he would not make us exit the vehicle and have us stranded on the street and seize the vehicle, pretty much threatening me humbly. Again my wife pleaded with him and explained that we were on the verge of being late and thanked this monster in police uniform.

Another constable arrived and he told him that the passenger (me) asked for his name and credentials hence he is subjecting a thorough inspection of the vehicle permits and documents. The two then whispered to one another and he came back my window.

I was poised and would never beg for letting us go, and if the flight was missed would have held the constable and the department responsible for the missed flight. This harassment from a police officer and offer to let us go by accepting bribe is deplorable in spite of best efforts from several of us to clean up the mess.

I asked his name again. The constable did not write a challan nor provide me his name and the requested information, but repeatedly tell us that we were at his mercy and for "humanity" sake is letting us go without collecting any money, not even the Rs100 he was originally ready to settle the matter at. He does not even know what "humanity" means.

I hope the police department cleans up such corrupt and harassing officers and take stringent action against them. It is deplorable to even write this on FACEBOOK page and show how pathetic it makes their department appear in the public. No wonder there is no respect for officers in from the general public, as they have sold themselves so cheaply.

More so they should ensure that they offer safe driving conations and get the roads cleaned up from construction debris, which is also our fundamental right. This is especially at all the flyovers and Metro work all through the city, before coming after trivial reasons such as window tinting.

By no means it is legal for a cop to stalk a taxi vehicle that is in service and carrying passengers to be stopped for a non traffic violation, and harass the driver or the passenger. I would like the police department to take note of this.

The aspect of Supreme Court declaring the not use of laminated glass is neither scientific nor will prevent automobile related crime from happening. There is no way your department is going to chase down a car with clear windows where a crime is being committed. Their ruling is purely reactionary to few incidents and is completely illogical and stupid. That is a separate story however.

What's your reaction?
