Reported on February 16, 2014 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #39527

I am an NRI. I had to visit Indian on an emergency and since my passport is about to expire, I decided to renew during my stay in India. During my stay abroad, my parents had changed their residence (old address in my old passport) and so I decided to get my new address printed in my new passport as well and provided sufficient documents as proof in the passport office.

I applied under tatkal scheme and got the passport (with post-verification). The police officer who came for verification said that I need to furnish my old address in the application. I checked again and found out that for an NRI, there are only 2 fields asked: Present address (abroad address) and Permenant address (Indian address). The police man was unnecessarily dragging me to get an affidavit done and indirectly asking for a bribe in the name of fees. I keep getting calls from him everyday and to be honest it is very annoying.

Only in our country do people abuse the information in the application such as phone number etc..
