Passport delayed by 16 months
This was 3 years ago. I had applied for a passport at Chennai RPO. After the police verification at Taramani police station, the policeman simply said "Verification is over. Now it's your choice" ! This actually was a veiled threat, pay up or suffer. I walked out quietly without paying a bribe. It took whole of 11 months after that for the passport to be released, that too after multiple RTI applications. I am sure there was a nexus between the passport office guys and the policewallas
By then I had moved to Bangalore, so I requested that the passport be sent to the RPO there. This office again delayed the delivery of an already made passport by another 5 months. Finally, I got my passport in hand only after another round of RTI applications and then the direct intervention of the Chief Passport Officer from Delhi. After all this, the then Passport officer at Bangalore (Jan 2008) was totally unapologetic for the actions of his staff
