Resisting traffic police

Reported on January 3, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #32598

On a few occasions I have been stopped by police for traffic violations. I was clearly in the wrong. So, I immediately accept that I was wrong and ask, "What is the penalty?" No matter what the cop says, and they usually do, about the lower figure I could pay, I pay the official fine and make them give me a receipt. Now with the Blackberry gizmo, they can't pocket the money. I have a receipt that is pucca.

At least I LIKE to believe that the electronication is all genuine.

It is amazing how docile I can make those fellas when I don't argue with them. I have even had the "OFFICIAL" fine drop down from 400 to 100 on one occasion. I paid 100, got the receipt, and was actually sent off with a "see you, sar"! I nearly wet myself!

But the look on the cops' faces when I say, "Yeah, I shouldn't have done that!" ... what a pleasure to see them non-plussed.
