RTO Scam
I am a 20 year old student from Kemps Corner, just trying to get a duplicate Registration Smart Card for my bike as i had lost the original.
Paying agents large sums of money is widely known at the RTO office and people willingly comply just so they don't have to go through the trouble of formalities.
A few days ago i realized my bike's RC Smart Card was missing. I found out from the RTO that i would need an NC from the police station, the insurance papers and the impression of the chassis number of my bike. When i went to the police station the constable tells me calmly about how i have to go get an affidavit from the court and blah blah blah... To which i firmly say "I know what to do, just give my the NC and i will by more than happy" All he says is to take his number down and call him as soon as i leave the police station.
As i do that, he tells me he needs some 'chai pani' and he couldn't say that at the Police Station. I said, straight away that i'm only a student and i can't afford to pay him anything. Besides, all my paperwork was clear and i wasn't doing anything wrong so i didn't see any need to pay him for asking him to do his job. He said he would call me the next day and get the affidavit made for me etc, to which i just said yeah whatever ok..
I went to the RTO and confirmed i didn't need anything of that sort. I returned to the Police station, met the officer in charge and explained the situation. I must say he was very courteous and wanted to help me asap. I was just required to write a letter stating i had lost the Smart Card. He ordered another constable to take down the complaint. Now, this constable says the same thing that the first one did, trying to convince the officer that i would have to get an affidavit. I told him that i confirmed with the RTO and nothing of that sort is required and to just take my god **********complaint and not interfere when the officer and i have already come to a conclusion. He obviously was irritated since i had got my way and he had to give me the required paper.
I thanked the officer and left for the RTO.
There, i faced another hurdle: The agents told me it would cost Rs 1600, 1200 and 1400 as they would have to pay all the officers for an order.. What's worse is no one gave me the exact figure of the official fee. I was agitated and that's when i yelled at all the agents sitting there saying I had the necessary paperwork and i wouldn't pay them or the officers inside and if they said anything of that sort again i'd register a complaint against them and the officers.
They were all taken aback and none of them had a word to say.
It's taken my days at the RTO office, running from one window to another waiting 2 hours for the babus and madams to finish their lunch.. They make you go to the same officer multiple times, waiting in que for so long.
In the end a couple of visits to the RTO for the necessary formalities paid off.. I have the receipt and will get the Smart Card in another week or so.
I just want to say one thing..
This and many other incidents have frustrated my beyond limits and one must begin to think is it really worth staying in such a place? A person would start hating the government and the laws so much that it would create hate for the country itself.
Why are we paying road tax? India is the only country where they dig the same stretch of road 10 times and manage to FU*K it up even more than the previous instance..
The conditons at the RTO and other government offices is absolutely pathetic.. If any foreigner visited them he/she would be shocked and absolutely disgusted. This is what we as a nation have done to our homes. There is lack of money and food, basic facilities. Standard of living is absolutely pathetic. Politicians have managed to take our country by the balls and choke the life out of it.
There was a time when our country was proud, with rich culture, natural beauty, good people and great rulers. Ever since the british came to our land we have been royally screwed.. and its not just one generation paying the price.
The condition of roads are a perfect picture of the condition of our country... Perfect a long time ago, before we fu*ked it up ourselves by digging the sh*t out of it.
It disappoints me to such an extent, how we are not even a fraction of what we were before english rule.
I hate when people talk about how india is a great culture and how we created math and we were one of the oldest inhabitants of the planet and our education system was far more advanced than others... Simply because all these things were achieved by our forefathers long long ago. We have not done jack sh*t for our country.
I know i'm straying from the point here but its so sad how britishers today say 'indians are so fu*ked up' and all that rubbish.. they don't know sh*t about us. We were far better off than them before they invded our land and corrupted our people.
Lord Mountbatten's report sent back UK said it all.. Before they ruled us, when the east indian company was established..
"This country is so rich in culture and values, there isn't a single thief or pauper. It will be impossible to rule this land unless we break their culture and morals"
