When paying the official fine leaves the Police fumbling...

Reported on May 31, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #32004

The state of infrastructure is so pathetic in Mumbai, especially Andheri that I have resolved I will never ever pay a bribe!
I was returning home after refuelling; when i inadvertently jumped a stop sign right outside the petrol pump at JVLR and the police officer promptly pulled me up.
I asked him for the official fine amount and he fumbled saying - i will take your driving license; come to the station and take it back. I got really angry and asked him to show me the rule book by which he can take my license. He was left speechless!
I then said, tell me the official fine; i accept I broke the law, I will pay and go. The officer fumbled even more and started saying; my fine receipt book is in the Chowki and you have to come there. I stayed adamant saying I wont and by law he is supposed to carry it with him.
Finally, he went running to his colleague, pulled out a book from somewhere and gave me a receipt for my fine.
I left Rs 100 poorer; but so much happier that I could take on these bribe takers so well!

What's your reaction?
