48cr scholarship scam exposed in Wardha Balwant Dhage, TNN Aug 18, 2011, 05.17am IST WARDHA: One student admitted to several colleges to rip off scholarship money. An abnormally high number of technical colleges sanctioned in just one district. Not a single general category student in 107 colleges. A huge drop in the number of students just after a safeguard is put in place. These are just some of the explosive findings that have come forward in a recent government inquiry into complaints of corruption and misappropriation of government scholarship funds meant for SC/ST students at Wardha. The inquiry was conducted by assistant director of finance and accounts of the divisional social welfare office, Amravati, Digambar Nemade. The amount of misappropriated funds is estimated to be at least Rs48 crore. Shockingly, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan sidestepped the issue even after Shiv Sena MLA Abhijit Adsul raised it in the assembly in the recent session of the state legislature.
