And then there's the good news....

Reported on July 14, 2013 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #34875

Dear Admin,

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place but here's a little good news that will warm the cockles of everyone's hearts. It has nothing to do with official corruption and everything to do with the goodness and honesty that is still alive and thriving so maybe you will keep it on.

My colleague and I caught an auto outside office a couple of days ago and moments after we stepped out, she realised she'd left her phone in it. We rushed back to where we'd hopped off. No use, he was long gone. We tried calling several times in the hope that he'd hear the phone in the backseat and return it to us. No response. She was dejected of course, because it was a pretty fancy phone with numbers accumulated over many years and no back up. Anyway, we head back to office a couple of hours later and who do we see but the same driver, parked outside! Turns out he did hear the phone ring, couldn't figure out how to answer it, went home, asked his daughter, called office to say he'd found it and came back all the way to return it! No chai paani expected or demanded.

A couple of months ago, an even better story. Same office, different colleague heads off to Bangalore Club after work, leaves her backpack with all her worldly possessions -- laptop, hard disk, camera, dinky little Bose speakers, headphones -- in the auto. The guy came back first thing the next morning from his house somewhere near Magadi Road which is halfway to China as far as we're concerned, drove all over the neighbourhood looking for the address on her card to return it, and waited until she came in to hand it over to her personally. He must have given up at least two hours of peak earning time in the process.

These guys were poor and disadvantaged in every way. They had nothing to gain by doing the right thing but they did it anyway. They were semi-literate at best but how much they have to teach us all!

What's your reaction?
