It was always customary for people in ********** Dombivli to pay the Police for successfull verification requests. I had heard this story countless times from my friends. So when I got the call for the verification for my passport, I armed myself with Rs.200/- (the minimum which is asked) before going to the Manpada Road Police Station Dombivli.
Boy was I surprised. The PO in charge of verifications was well behaved. He had all the applicatants sitting in a queue and was processing the verification in an organized manner. But I was still skeptic.
When my turn came, the questions were asked, answered & all the documents submitted. He asked a bit more about the Passport usage, he also asked about printers and their cost (since I was an IT professional) & I thought here it comes the price for the verification.
But I was pleasantly surprised when he concluded our discussion saying that all the docs are in place and the report will be submitted by the EOW & I can expect my passport in the next 15 days.
Infact I was confused by the abrupt ending to the meeting that I asked him again that are there any pending charges.. just to clarify that he was not asking for anything. He assured me that no charges were necessary & I came out a bewildered, happy man...
