Corruption also affects Indian Diaspora

Reported on June 6, 2011 from Nadiad , Gujarat  ι Report #7854

My story is about how India's corruption is affecting people of Indian origin living abroad but with ancesteral property in India. I cam to India in 1998 to sort out the paperwork for my ancesteral property at the Nadiad city survey office. i had to keep coming back for 5 days and then eventually had to pay 100 rupees for the official to accept my written request. Even then i was told that further paperwork would be required. On my return I sent it as requested and my request was never processed and remains unprocessed to this day. I understand that Gujarat now has an electronic system, but you have to go in person to the city survey office to obtain copies of any documents. I have emailed the relevant department ment times asking what the process is to get the relevant information from abroad. I have never received any acknowledgement or reply. I have done my best to comply with the local laws but if I am not even able to find out what the government process is, I cannot do anything. India is losing a huge amount to revenue and investment from people like me because of corruption at every level of administration
