Paid money for Police Verification for Passport

I gave Rs 500 to the person who came from IB department to my house for veryfying my documents. All my documents were clear. But still paid as he said that he has come to my house from the police station by himself. Very illogical reason. But if I would have refused, I would have never got my passport.
