I'm from Chennai and do not know Kannada. I had to pay property tax for my flat located at Manipal County Road, Singasandra and approached BBMP office at Kudlu gate. I had all the documents required and the Demand draft for the amount to be paid.
I had to face a typical issue that any person who doesn't know the local language would face. In India, there is a practice of having State Government forms in the local language which does not even have translation in English. Since I did not know to read the form and also required transfer of name, the staff (can name the staff, if asked for) used my negative to his positive strength and demanded Rs. 500 to get the work done. This scenario not only exists in Bangalore but across India.
