Shop to Establish an Act

A US based company which had recently started its operations in India had rented an office space where I am currently working. Being new in the Indian market we were not aware of the Shop and Establishment Act, 1947 which requires every firm to get registered under this act to be able to conduct any business. One day the shop inspector arrived at our Center to validate if everyone in the center having an office space is registered with the Act. Unfortunately, there were many who had not registered since they never knew what this act was. The Shop inspector showed us the legal path where we could be penalied for every extra day of business conducted without registration and the owner of the business would also need to appear in front of the court where the penalty would be justified. Being a US company the owners resided in the US and they would not want all this hassel so the Shop Inspector gave us an out of court settlement amount (The Bribe) which could solve all our problems and get us a registration within two days. And thats how I PAID A *******
