Small savings agents are being forced to pay some fixed amount to avoid conflict between citizen of a small town and post office officials.
- Post Office
- Passbook
- Paid INR 100
There are some officials within Anjar-Kutch Post office who regularly take money from the customer as well as government authorised agents in order to carry out their transaction. There is a government rule that post office can not pay your matured amount if it exceeds more than 20,000, but if pay some fixed amount to post office officials, you get money in cash no matter your amount. I think that means there must be some provision to get cash even if your matured amount is more than 20000.
The same officials, they do not let people to open their new savings accounts within the post office without paying them some money.
They also charge some fixed amount for opening recurring deposit accounts as well. I am sure some people they do not like this system but they do not come forward as they have to work with the same officials day to day basis.
