One can apply for a birth certificate in any one of the CFCs.

 

In the CFC the procedure for acquiring the birth certificate is very simple. One must just submit the duly signed application form along with the required documents. The CFC agent fills in the application in the computer system. Then the CFC agent also collects necessary fees and required documents from the applicant. As a final step the CFC agent prints and issues Certificates (as per number of copies) and fee receipt to the applicant.

Procedure to apply for a birth certificate in Mumbai online

You can fill in online application forms from any of the computer connected to the Internet, by visiting the Mumbai Citizen Portal provided applicant's birth is already registered with MCGM.  Ones Birth certificate in Mumbai can be applied through online by logging into the official website where you can also check whether the name is being registered or not. If the information is right then you can fill the form.

Collecting the birth certificate

You have to specify the mode of delivery in the form i.e. whether one would want to collect from the ward (After getting registered, the birth certificate application form can be taken from hospital or from Municipal Corporation office) , or have it couriered to your address. If you have opted for receiving it through courier, it will reach you within the time assumed by the Department of Posts.

 

In case of adoption, the procedure to register the child’s name for a birth certificate is as follows:

  • Obtain a Birth Certificate Form from the nearest Municipality Corporation free of cost.
  • Fill up child's & parent's name in the relevant columns.
  • The 'name of hospital' (where the child was born) column is to be left blank.
  • In the section 'Place of Birth', write the Orphanage address from where child has been adopted.
  • Submit the form along with a copy of adoption deed and requisite charges.
  • The Municipality Corporation validates child's availability at the concerned address.
  • If any birth is not found registered, the Registrar shall issue a Non Availability Certificate (NAC is issued under The Registration of Births & Deaths Act 1969). For Non Availability Certificate: Click here.
  • Collect the Non Availability Certificate on the due date & use the same to file a petition at the District Magistrate's office.
  • Court will issue an order to the Municipality Corporation Officer to generate a birth certificate.
  • Again apply at Municipality Corporation Office & a birth certificate with parent's name will be given.
