Hello, I was in the waiting room for travelers in AC coaches on…

Reported on September 17, 2014 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #43488

Hello,

I was in the waiting room for travelers in AC coaches on platform no.1 at Bangalore City Jn. Railway station on 15th September 2014 at around 6pm. When a group of travelers arrive in waiting room, the caretaker (who spoke Hindi with a distinct accent from Patna,Bihar or its neighbouring areas) would inform them that room is available for only 2 hours prior to the printed departure time on the ticket and would ask them to go to a waiting room on Platform no. 8 in the same station. However, when he finds single travelers trying to check in the room for more than the allotted/allowed 2 hours he would ask them to be seated and depending on the additional hours spend would charge Rs. 30-50 as a bribe. He would indicate them to meet him behind the glass partition in waiting room (area near the toilets), demand bribe and also make a fuss about less payments. Most of the unaware/unsuspecting single travelers shell out the sum of bribe demanded. I understand that the waiting rooms are to be used by genuine railway travelers (with AC tickets) free of charge.
Hope the concerned railway authorities would take a note of this and take action against the unscrupulous erring employee.

Best,
A concerned Indian.
