A Costly mistake!

Reported on October 22, 2010 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #32651

On my way to an early morning wedding 2 months back, I was crossing the Vadapalani 100ft road junction on Arcot Road, when a policeman flagged me down. On alighting, he said that I was talking on the phone while driving, which is a punishable offence. True, I was on the phone for 20 secs to respond to my mom's call, and I was on the speaker, and the phone on the dashboard. Arguable case, but I was in the mood to relent.

He took me to his 'Sargent'(the guy with 3 stripes) with a notebook on his Bullet. To cut a long story short, he said it was Rs 1200 for this offence, and if I would like to take the easy way out by paying much less offline. I firmly rejected him saying that I would only pay the official Rs.1200 with a receipt. Needless to say, I have since then never talked on the phone(well 99%) while driving, since I paid a huge price. I am still proud that I did not pay up the bribe.
