Didnt pay bribe to reduce the registration charges...
I went to the registrar office for registration of the plot I had bought. The registrar told me that the registrar fee is going to be calculated @ commercial rate. I was surprised as it was in a residential colony. He said, since the colony is near the highway, the entire area is considered as commercial. He could however help me file an affidavit claiming that the plot is in residential area. This will reduce the registration fee (bonds etc) by 50,000. From what I save he will take a 40% cut. If I dont agree, I will have to pay the full registration fee at the commercial rate.
Supported by my father I decided not to pay bribe. I filed a claim saying that the land is a residential plot but the registrar denied the claim as I didnt pay him bribe. I dont live there so dont have time to fight against him or prove him guilty of asking for bribe. I am sure he would have done the same or similar thing.
This is a great way to report the bribe or the incident when a bribed was asked and surely will create awareness amongst the people of India against curruption.
