Failing to Lodge an FIR, Police blames residents for theft from their apartment.
The case was of a theft that took place at our friends apartment. He lives in a 1BHK apartment in Electronic City phase 2. We slept late at night and when we wokek up early in the morning our stuff was gone. the thief had taken all the electronic goods that he found in the hall and even cash that he could get his hands on. The door was still latched.
The thief had managed to open the latch of the door from the open window beside the door and managet to close it again after taking all the stuff, He took all the bags outside, latched the door , went through the bags and took whatever useful he could find.
We went to the Parappana Agraha police station to lodge an FIR . They sent two policemen with us to the look around and report whatever they could find. The policemen, not intrested at all, started blaming us for the loss. They did go with us to the apartment and we told them averything that happened and also that we thought happened. They noted everything down, from our names , to our native addresses to the list of things that was missing. They called us back to the police station to lodge a complaint.
There they told us to write a complaint for the 'Loss of goods', i.e., that our stuff did not get stolen but got lost while on our way home, from office. We told them that the stuff actually got stolen from our apartment, hesitantly got us to fill some State Govt. form for 'Loss of Laptop' and in the same form mentioned the stuff that we had lost.
They were not ready to ladge an FIR and the actually never did lodge an FIR, the head constable started shouting at us , blaming us for the theft and saying that "It is is your resposibility" and saying that "This is Bangalore, things do not happen like this."
We have been here two weeks and we had to face this, after getting robbed off our stuff.
May be because this is Bangalore.
