I refuse to pay the police
While travelling on an official visit to Baleswar (Odissa) my car faced an accident. It hit a big stone laid middle of the road and my car came to stand still. The lower part of the engine & radiator got damaged. In the mean time a police person came (he introduced himself as the SI of local police station) and behaved as if he is genuinely concerned about my loss and want to extend help. He then put a home guard there and told me that I should not bother and this person (home guard) would be there till your vehicle lifted up by company service persons. When I arranged people & other means to take my car, the home guard repeatedly told me to contact the SI before taking the car. I asked ‘Why”? But he kept on insisting me to take SI’s permission before removing the car. The intention was to take some money from me before releasing the car. I told him : “My car is not involved in any accident where there is any damage to any person (even if me), or it has not blocked the road or it has not created any traffic obstacle. Then you do not think I would pay a fine (it’s rather bribe). I’m a man with some education & knowledge. You may please tell you boss. If you put any pressure, then I would inform this to the DG.” After some time the SI arrived there, but did not come me to the spot. By that time he has been informed by the home guard about my reaction, so he did not come demanding money.
