Money for nothing

Reported on June 21, 2011 from Ahmedabad , Gujarat  ι Report #31789

I had just landed at Ahmedabad's international airport and cleared customs, however upon checking my bags the policeman managing the screen checks asked me to explain some metal objects in my bag (they turned out to be commemorative coins for the gods). After this as I came back the policeman at the exit of the airport blocked me and told me, "Come on, pay up". I explained to him that I had done nothing wrong and was carrying nothing illegal. He replied, "The rule is if you get called, you pay up." Now I hadn't been in India for a past five months and my first experience was a policeman taking a bribe, this made me simply disgusted, so I asked him for his badge number, his name and told him to come with me to see the airport security officer. As soon as he heard this, he let me go.
