Nobody can stop you when equipped with right information

Reported on March 6, 2011 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #32478

Hi, I am Manivel from Chennai and my story is on various instances of tackling the traffic police. I have a motorcycle of Maharastra registration and driving it in Chennai. I had one instance in Pune when a cop stopped me and was asking for my PUC but since I knew that you do not need a PUC until 3 months or 10000 KMS of running, I was able to tackle him.

The other 2 instances happened in Chennai. I was driving in a busy road when a cop pulled me onto the side. He said that I do not enough papers to run my vehicle in Chennai as it is Maharastra registration. Since I was well aware the procedures, I argued with him. Seeing me argue boldly and clearly, he let me go. Another incident happened for the same reason but unfortunately, this time one of the letters in the number plate has been washed in the previous day rain which I did not notice. The cop initially argued about getting Tamil Nadu permit for driving the vehicle and showed the backside of the ticket that has few rules and I pointed out the mistake in his argument. Finally he noticed the number plate and asked me about it. I tried to explain but he was adamant and I said that I would pay the fine. All the while the traffic constable growing impatient at me arguing with him.

I paid Rs.100/- and moved on. It is better to pay the Govt. than encourage bribes however small they are.

What I observe, from my experience, is that if you are well informed and observe the rules to the dot, you wouldn't have to pay bribes and especially with the kind of media exposure even they are little apprehensive in asking bribes.
