One does't have to pay bribes for passport verifications
I am a retired defence officer . my passport expired about 6 months back. i remembered after about a month of it's lapsing. i was told to follow a certain procedure which i did. i provided two addresses of respectable persons in the neighbourhood, as per procedure and waited for verification process. after a few weeks i received a call from s.h.o, hazratganj , lucknow to come to the police post(a wrong procedure)along with the two witnesses for signing the verification forms etc.by then one of my friends , an army officer , had moved on posting. i informed the s.h.o. but he remained adament when others advised me that bribing will help and its only a ploy. as i do not pay bribe, as a principle, i approached the passport office where i was advised that witnesses being present is not a mandatory requirement, atall. so i told the police that i will not produce the winesses and they ********** return my passports to the passport office, unactioned, if they so desire. my passpots(self and wife) were delivered to me , in due course, fully verified. - LESSON LEARNT - KNOW AND FOLLOW PROCEDURES, TAKE A STAND, GET OFFICIAL ADVICE, WAIT FOR LAID DOWN TIME.
