Pay No Bribe- Face Adverse Report
I Applied for the Reissue of my passport (My third Passport) and got and appointment after a month. on 12-3-2012, I appeared at the Passport Office and went through the process. On 17-3-2012 I got message on my mobile asking me to appear before the Peenya Police for Passport Verification. I went to the Police station at 12-30 PM and met the constable in charge. First the Constable said my name was incorrectly written (Why should he be concerned with my name?) and that I should correct it.Next he said the address mentioned in the Voters ID card does not match the one on my Driving License (Voters IDs have a all new address in Bangalore) and that I should correct it as well.
After 10 days of my application for the Passport the same was sent to me by Speed Post.
On 24-5-2012 I received a letter from the Passport office stating that there is an "adverse repor t" from police, viz. " Address not traced". For having suppressed information why my passport should not be impounded and why I should not be prosecuted under the Passport Act?
The Fact is I have been residing in the same house and running my law office for the past 20 years. My house is neither in a slum nor in a Revenue pocket where the police could have failed to locate it. My house is in a well formed Layout by a House Building Society.
The truth is no police man ever bothered to come to my house to verify my residence at that place. No policeman ever called me to check the location of the house. No policemen ever called the references ( Two Responsible Persons in the locality) to check the veracity of the contents of my application. Since I did not pay the Regular Fixed Bribe to the Police the mischievous and malicious report stating address not traced has been sent to the Passport office. Now the law abiding sincere officers of Passport Office want to impound my passport and prosecute me for suppressing material information.
