Perseverance and patience helps in bribe prevention

Reported on August 29, 2012 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #32779

A relative of mine had to apply for Khata transfer of her apartment. We had to handle the job on her behalf. As a princple, we are strongly against paying any bribe which we have been successful in handling that way multiple times in the past.

In this case, the discussion started among the flat owners to pay from 25,000/- per flat through the builder. After multiple rounds of discussions and negotiation, the association decided to pay Rs. 2500/- per khata.

We have applied for the Khata transfer directly in the office and had to be firm inspite of various tactics used by them to get bribe. Finally, we got all the documents after 4 months. I had to use names of RTI, Lokayukta during the discussions with the concerned officers.

If we are truthful and straightforward, there is no need to pay bribe. We should not be in a hurry to get things done. Perseverance and patience coupled with determination helps in prevention of bribe.

In cases where still it is difficult, all like minded people can come together by sacrificing some time (atleast one day in a month) , go as group to the office where job needs to be got done. This way, problem comes to surface (expose) about the office/officer who demand money and it is proven to be effective. Request Janagraha for support in co-ordination of volunteers.
