Refused to pay bribe for fictitious violation

Reported on October 2, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #31493

Driving (car) from yelhanka to Jakur, stopped at traffic junction after yelahanka ( near jakur airport wall). It was a subtle wave of hand kind of stoppage. Anyway stopped. Was driving slowly as I was bringing my family from station with some luggage. Cop said that I had jumped the signal, which I had not. He demanded 100 or he threatened he would not allow the car to move. Refused to pay the amount as I had not violated any rules. Escalated to another officer who was there, he also said have to pay 100 or no moving. Escalated to the third officer who was the one who had done the wave of hand. He said no violation, you can leave. I think he felt I was creating too much of a scene. While this transaction was going on this set of 3 cops must have pocketed at least 500 from others 'violators'.

Another point i noticed was that the Bangalore traffic police have access to previous traffic violation. They stopped a truck which was one such case even though that truck did not seem to violate any traffic rules at that point in time. They still took money from that poor guy!! Now that is exploitation!!
