Reported on December 24, 2013 from Kochi , Kerala  ι Report #38660

I do not use my cell phone while driving, but on that day I was on my cell phone on speaker phone, but was holding the phone on my hands. At a traffic intersection, as I was waiting for a signal, a policeman knocked on my windows and asked to open the door for him to get it. I opened a door. and he asked me to stop the car after the signal.

He said that I would have to come to court at a later date (I was in Kochi, about 300 km away from my town) or an officer would come to write a ticket. I asked him politely if he could waive me for this time. He hinted that I should pay a bribe.

I was polite, but firmly refused to pay a bribe and made it clear that I was willing to suffer the consequences. Having to come to the traffic court would mean that I had to travel 600 kms for the hearing, but I did not want to pay a bribe.

After many more hints, he knew that I was not going bribe and he let me go without a fine.
