Refused to pay up for duty free purchases

Reported on June 14, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #31845

I was on my way back from London and had 2 cartons of cigarettes and 2 bottles of whiskey with me. At the exit point of the airport (just after the customs), 2 policeman accosted me. One pointed to the bottles and the other pointed to the cigarettes. Both wanted me to leave something or pay something. I refused - and in a loud voice heard by others told them to get their facts correct and that i'd report them if they persisted in their venture. Needless to say, this hurt their chances of getting money from others and let me go.

Moral of the story is: Know your rights and the other person's weakness.
