Resisted to pay bribe, paid Fine instead for ticket-less travel

Reported on March 6, 2011 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #32468

It happened when I was studying in school (pre-university level - in May 2001 ). I was on my way to the school and I had to catch a train from kodambakkam. I was already late and as soon as I saw the train I boarded it without realizing that I did not have a ticket with me. My destination was Mambalam (which is just one stop way). I was caught by a TTR (ticket checker) and he took me to the railways office at Mambalam. He told me that I violated law and have to pay Rs.50 as a fine. He also said that if I pay him Rs.25 I don't have to pay the fine. I chose to pay the fine instead. After paying the fine , he asked me to go (he did not issue a receipt at that time). I stayed on and asked for a receipt for the transaction. Then, he grudgingly gave me an official receipt for that. This act of mine, gave me a sense of satisfaction :)
