I have Vinyl wrapped my car and in the process have a different colour sticker over the original colour as mentioned on my registration card. At the Century Bazar signal I was stopped by a traffic constable and my license taken away for the same offence. The constable was unable to mention the section under which he had taken my license but mentioned the offence. In due course I went to the Traffic HQ at Pochkhanawala rd to retrieve it. Was directed to a room where a constable pulled out my license and asked me to speak to another constable [ in a room with many other police personnel]. I was taken behind a strategically placed desk away from the other occupants of the room and given the standard talk of how complicated the matter was and asked how I wanted to proceed. I replied that I would like to complete the formalities and retrieve my license after paying the fine. I was told that the fine could not be collected here and the car has to be produced at the Tardeo RTO [ 12.45 on the 19th Mar-- date and time given without consulting any register or time availability book] in the condition it was when I was booked. I informed him that since I was booked for the offence I have since removed the Sticker wrap and now the car conforms to its RC book/card colour. I was told that I had to bring the car with the Sticker on the car. I explained to him the stupidity of the/his requirement as once I had been booked for an offence he was asking me to persist with the same. Once again I was told of the complications I would have to go thru which I said that was acceptable to me. On now realizing that his tactics were not yielding any fruit, suddenly a Fine receipt book appears and a Rs 300/- fine is levied. Copies of the Fine receipt and the Challan are with me for reference . I m sure the extortion to ease the formalities would have worked out to much more than the official one. All the more reason for the government to get the revenue rather than the corrupt pockets. Often we take the easy way out, fuelling the corrupt system. Resist and soon you will find its a much better way to do things and truly take pride in the small things like standing up for the National Anthem before a movie rather doing it because you are required to by law.
